Dr. Annie W. Spell, Ph.D. completed her doctorate in child clinical psychology from Louisiana State University (LSU) in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2007. She currently provides psychological assessment, treatment, and consultation services for children, adolescents, and their families in Lafayette, Louisiana at Aucoin and Associates, a private psychology practice. She is also the school psychologist at Episcopal School of Acadiana.

Dr. Spell’s training and past clinical experiences have included providing psychological services within the Houston Independent School District; the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC) Pediatric Department in Baton Rouge; the Gonzales Mental Health Center in Gonzales, Louisiana; the Louisiana School for the Deaf in Baton Rouge; and, The Psychology Clinic in Baton Rouge. Dr. Spell’s specialized clinical interest areas include childhood behavior disorders, parenting, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), childhood depression and anxiety, child abuse and trauma, and teacher consultation. Her research activity, most recently involving child response following Hurricane Katrina, has been published in three scientific journal articles. She has presented at psychological conferences, such as the annual conference for the Association of Cognitive And Behavioral Therapies (ABCT), in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.

Her history and involvement with Leap ’N Learn began with casual kitchen conversations with Beverly Spell, discussing classroom management issues within the dance studio setting. In 2003, with Beverly’s authoring of the original Leap ’N Learn written for dance studio owners and teachers, Dr. Spell, who was then a master’s level doctoral candidate, provided psychological consultation for the syllabus. With the most recent syllabus of LEAP ’N LEARN for the CLASSROOM, Dr. Spell has again provided psychological consultation on the development and needs of children within a preschool setting.
